Where To Start In Regards To Securing Your Family's Home

When it comes to protecting your home, there are a lot of things that you can do. However, it can be so difficult to make sure you have covered all of your basis because the chances are good that you don't think like a criminal. This can make it hard for you to recognize all those little details that can be leaving your home an easy target. Here are 5 safety tips to follow:

Change your locks

If you have recently moved into a new home, you have recently lost one of your house keys, you recently evicted a roommate or had anything else happen that may have left the keys to your home vulnerable you should just change the locks. It's better for you to be safe than sorry.

Put a good lock on your fuse box

If you have a fuse box that is located on the outside of your home then you want to make sure you put a heavy duty lock on it. Otherwise, a criminal can take advantage of having access to the fuse box in order to turn off your electricity if they are going to break into your house so you won't be as much of a threat to them because you won't be able to see them in the dark.

Know which neighbors to get close to

Getting close to the right neighbors can give you an extra ally when it comes to watching over your house and helping to keep it safe and secure. However, getting a little too friendly with the wrong neighbors can leave you more at risk because they will know things about you that can help them know the best times and ways to victimize you without getting caught.

Don't tell too much on social media

A lot of people put way too much about themselves on their social media pages. They list the city they live in, their work, their full name, their daily schedule, their up and coming plans, and much more. If you give out all this information, then you are giving a criminal just about all the information they need to figure out a lot more about you than any stranger should know.

Everything else they need to know in order to burglarize your house they can probably find out by reading your posts on some of the groups you are a member on or by reading the posts on your page. This is due to the fact that a lot of people even post their vacation plans and even put up pictures of their house and car. Make sure you post as little information as possible and only allow your page to be accessible by people you have close relationships with in real life.
